The first quarter of every year is the season for auto shows to be held globally. Last month, the New York Auto Show was held revealing some of the most intriguing automobiles in the industry. Following the end of the New York Auto, it gave way to the beginning of the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show in the same month. Car brands didn’t leave any stone unturned in coming up and displaying a collection of gorgeous cars with interesting designs and bizarre-looking technology. From Audi to Lynk &Co., all were eager to reveal their best and untouched produce to the auto industry.

Here are some of the honorary mentions from the Shanghai Autoshow that were considered major reveals by the auto industry.

Renault R.S 2027

At first glance, the Renault R.S 2027 is an elegant concept racecar packed with LED lights. According to the French automaker, they have designed the Renault R.S 2027 keeping in mind their idea of Formula 1’s future.

The Renault R.S 2027 was built with three main focus points; safety, driver engagement and entertainment, all with a futuristic perspective in mind. Despite the heavily stylized, futuristic appearance, there’s no mistaking the yellow and black R.S. 2027 Vision for anything other than a Renault F1 car. The automaker thinks F1 cars of the future will be far lighter and faster than today’s racers. In terms of specifications it has a weight of 600 kilos, or just over 1,300 horsepower and 1,300 pounds. Its engine is turbocharged hybrid V6.

Lynk & Co.’s 03 Concept

Lynk & Co, a Volvo-sibling startup owned by Chinese automaker Geely, introduced the 03 concept in the Shanghai Auto Show. It is a serious but smart sedan that is ideal to use by families. The 03 concept is said to feature some of the SUV specifications.

It is a four-door sedan with the same size as 01 crossover. The 03 concept is also powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gas engine backed by an electric motor. There is also said to have an option of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Its unique fender-top headlamps and broad, narrow slit grille all adds to its overall appeal. Its overall proportions are quite traditional, yet rather sporty, particularly thanks to details like its blacked-out roof and complex five-spoke wheels.

NIO ES8

NIO introduced their high performance electric SUV, the NIO ES8. It is expected to be launched by end of this year and deliveries will start by next year. NIO was one of the car brands that showcased the largest line-up among automotive start-ups at the Shanghai Autoshow.

The length of the NIO ES8 is over 196 inches long and the wheelbase is over 118 inches long. The ES8 has an all-aluminum body and chassis, front and rear motors with electric all-wheel drive, and active air suspension. The ES8 features the “design identity” of every NIO vehicle: the X-bar and signature “Spark Beat” tail lights. The vehicle’s swappable battery will provide a charging experience that surpasses refueling at gas stations. The manufacturing and supply chain that will produce the ES8 is already in place.

Audi E-tron Sportsback

Audi released a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, called the Audi E-tron Sportsback that offers you the sportiness and luxury of an Audi hybrid combined.

It has a sleek sportsback body for an aerodynamic feel, along with a capacious interior and cargo space. The interior is designed to be sporty featuring a panoramic sunroof.

The new Audi E-Tron Sportsback comes with three trim levels including Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. All these trim levels come with the same 1.4-litre TFSI PHEV engine. Audi says it will have 320 kilowatts of power, with a “boost mode” to 370 kW and can reach 62 mph in 4.5 seconds. A 95 kWh battery pack will enable just over 310 miles of range per charge. The combining power of the gas-electric hybrid engine and an electric vehicle is capable producing 204 horsepower, thus exceeding everyone’s expectations.

Other than performance, it is laden with smart technology, inside and out. It has an Audi virtual cockpit with 12.3-inch driver-focused, fully digital information cluster that displays navigation, Audi Connect, radio, phone and other media with outstanding clarity. In terms of safety features, some of them found are Adaptive Cruise Control and Active Lane Assist among others.

Audi is reported to have said that the new electric coupe crossover will hit the market in 2019.

Volkswagen I.D. Crozz

Volkswagen introduced its third zero-emission battery-electric concept car at the Shanghai Autoshow.

When it comes to the performance of the I.D. Crozz, it is powered with two electric motors; 75 kW at the front axle, and 150 kW at the rear, totaling 225 kW (302 horsepower). Volkswagen drives the concept car by adding single-speed, fixed-ratio gearboxes between each electric motor and its respective axle, which it dubs an “electric prop shaft.”

It offers on-demand all-wheel drive, but the bigger rear motor gives it more of a rear-drive feel. Volkswagen insists the I.D. Crozz will accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in less than 6 seconds, and to a top speed of 112 mph. It also offers 311 miles of driving range from its 83-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

With the I.D. Crozz, Volkswagen has truly achieved the futuristic versions of their car model and the Shanghai Autoshow was the perfect setting to reveal it.

MG E-Motion

Last but not the least, MG returned to its sports car roots with the revelation of their E-Motion concept at the Shanghai Autoshow. It is an all-electric grand tourer.

As an electric vehicle, it is said to reach 62 mph in under 4 seconds, and can go about 310 miles on a full charge. In terms of its body structure, it has a very attractive, traditional GT shape. It is complete with its compulsory long hood and short rear deck along with graceful curves. Other exterior features include vertical taillamps, glass roof, and pert decklid spoiler. One of the most striking feature of this 4-seater GT are the butterfly doors. It is said to be in production in around 2020.

These are some of the worth mentioning cars that had emerged in the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show. Most of the cars showcased were electric or hybrid cars, which is showcases the growing demand and technological advancement in this segment of the auto industry worldwide.
