The UAE is known for extremely hot and humid conditions in the summer season as temperatures can even rise up to 50 Degree Celsius occasionally. Tinting of car windows is a practice that car owners in the UAE adopt to avoid summer heat while driving and the latest change in the tinting rule now allows a tinting limit of 50% for car windows, which is an extension of 20% from the previously allowed limit. People are appreciating this modified law as they can now avoid maximum sunlight while driving.

Benefits of Tinting Windows in the UAE

Through the modification of the law, people are allowed extra tinting limit for windows of their cars and this will have a positive influence in reducing the absorption of extra heat inside the car cabin. This will automatically improve the efficiency of the air conditioning systems in cars, which will mean that long journey in summer will become more convenient and stress-free. Motorists were always looking for such a change in the car windows tinting limit because the old 30% limit was considered insufficient by masses in view of the extreme hot and humid weather conditions.

Statement of Dubai police about the modification in the traffic law

The Assistant Commander in Chief of Dubai Police for Operational Affairs and the Director of FTC, Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafein said that under the Article 9 of the new traffic law, people are now allowed to tint their car windows up to 50% except the front windscreens. He also added that the law will not be modified for taxis and trucks. Rental and company vehicles will also be allowed to tint their vehicles up to 50%.

3 Ways to Keep Cars Cool in summer

Keeping in mind the extreme weather conditions of the UAE, tinting a car’s windows can be ideal to save the interior of the vehicle from direct exposure to sunlight and heat. However, there are other ways too that motorists in the UAE can follow to keep the temperatures down inside their vehicles. These possible solutions are as follows:

  • Always try to park your vehicle in shade, but if there is no shade available then try to park your vehicle in the opposite direction of sun so that the rays of sun hit the rear end of your vehicle. Before sitting in your vehicle, try to put a wet towel on the seat so that the towel absorbs the maximum level of heat from your seat. It will help you to drive the vehicle with maximum ease and comfort.
  • If your vehicle was parked in the direction of sun, then open the windows of your vehicle after sitting inside and set the fan at maximum speed. This will push the hot air out and then you can turn on the AC after a few minutes and close the windows of the car. This is how you can improve the circulation of cool air inside the car.
  • You can also cover your car’s dashboard and steering wheel with a cloth or blanket. Keeping the steering wheel in a downwards position can help the driver to avoid direct contact with a hot steering while driving.

The new traffic laws were implemented all across the UAE from 1st July 2017, and the traffic authorities have amended the car windows tinting rule for the well-being of motorists. The modification in the traffic law makes the life of people much easier as now they are allowed to cover their car windows with 50% tinting to fight against the extremely hot weather in the UAE. Motorists should also feel their responsibility and shouldn’t look to exploit the rule by tinting their car windows above 50%. A fine of AED 1,500 is the penalty for the offender who is not obeying the tinting rule in the UAE.
