A spoiler is an additional, fixed component, attached to the back of a car, mainly made of synthetic material that disrupts the airflow whilst driving. Another term for it is “wing”. Nevertheless, there is a difference in the design of the two, since in the case of a wing–in contrast to a spoiler–the air is diverted not only above the component, but also underneath it.
A spoiler, owing to the effect of aerodynamics, has a positive impact on the buoyancy forces, and, thus, improves driving performance. As a result, a vehicle’s traction on the road is boosted, less fuel is used up, and a higher speed is achieved. Owing to their visual impact, spoilers and wings are beloved in the world of tuning.
The first spoiler appeared on the market in 1953. Meanwhile, several versions of it have become available. A front spoiler reduces the buoyancy on the front axle. Due to the reduced distance from the ground, air cannot flow through under the vehicle‘s bodywork, and, through this phenomenon, an air vacuum is produced. Rear and roof spoilers give a considerable boost to the diverted airflow, particularly with front-wheel drive, and both driving performance and curve stability are enhanced.
The price range for spoilers and wings oscillate between 120 Dirhams and 8,000 Dirhams. If the component is built in, the construction design must be tested and approved by a technical assessor, and the alteration must be noted down in the vehicle‘s documentation.
