How does the dent doctor repair dents?
An error made when parking, falling branches or even hail can cause dings and dents in the car. However, not every damage to the car means that the vehicle must be repaired in a workshop. For smaller problems, the dent doctor can help, an expert who repairs dings and dents without painting immediately. The solution in most cases is SMART Repair. A dent doctor pushes or pulls out dents in the body of the car using special tools. This type of repair is known technically as paintless dent repair. The damage that a dent doctor can eliminate includes:
- Hail damage
- Small to medium dents
- Parking dents
- Door edge dents
- Dents & dings where the paint is not chipped
Dent repair from the dent doctor
Dent doctors usually work in specialised dent repair companies, where you can easily eliminate body damage with the help of special tools. An advantage of the dent doctor is that the cost of the repair can be kept particularly low because the body parts do not have to be removed – mended – and reinstalled. The dent doctor completes the repair step for step and therefore saves time and money. There are two different methods of paintless dent repair that the dent doctor uses:
- Paintless dent repair
Especially in a hailstorm many cars are victims of multiple small bumps and dents. A dent doctor, who pushes out the dents from the rear side of the metal body with specially curved steel rods is then the solution. So that he can work carefully and see all possible damage, the dent doctor uses special lamps to detect dents and distortions.
- Glue pulling Technology
Slightly more expensive but widespread is the glue pulling technique that allows the dent doctor to mend countless parts on the car. Here, an outwardly curved adhesive button (adapter) is glued exactly to the centre of the dent. Using a sliding hammer the adapter is abruptly withdrawn so that the deformed dent becomes a bulge, which in turn can easily be beaten into its original form. Different adapters are used according to the size of the dent. Using glue pulling technology keeps the cost of the dent doctor as low as possible.
Dent doctor rates & doing dent removal yourself
Removing a dent, which is about the size of a two 1 Dirham coin costs on average about 120 to 200 AED. The bigger the dent, the more expensive the repair. Many dent doctors work with paint doctors, so that dings and dents with minor paint damage are not significantly more expensive. If you still want to mimic the dent doctor on your vehicle, the most important tools are available at the hardware store:
- Heat gun
- Rubber mallet
- Heavy-duty suction cup
- Tool for removing the trim
The interior trim should first be cautiously removed and then the outer panel is heated – please note: paint can burn. Therefore, keep at least 10 cm away with the heat gun. Now the rubber mallet or heavy duty suction cup would be attached if the dent was not already manually repaired. If you want to remove a bump or dent yourself, one must always proceed cautiously in order to not create more damage than there already is. To play it safe, it is recommended to go to a professional dent doctor.
