Despite radical steps and active precautionary measures by the authorities, Dubai traffic still faces dreadful problems. In the first half of 2016, there have been 112 traffic deaths from January to the end of June. The statistics revealed, have sent an alarming signal to the traffic police and related authorities of Dubai.

Comparing Traffic Records of 2016 with those of 2015

In the first half of the year 2016, the motorists faced severe injuries and in extreme cases deaths occurred. The total number of accidents caused in the first half of 2016 is 1472, out of which 1037 were injury cases while 112 were deaths.  In the first half of last year, there were 1,526 traffic accidents. Those accidents caused 1,073 injuries while 77 deaths were recorded, a comparatively smaller figure of deaths than the present year.  Overall, traffic accidents have decreased in 2016 but increased number of traffic deaths creates worries for traffic authorities in Dubai. Moreover, among 1037 traffic injuries, there were 578 minor, 381 mid-level and 78 were severe injury cases.

Main Reasons behind Traffic Accidents

The director of Dubai Traffic Police, Brigadier Saif Muhair Ali Mazroui stated that there were different reasons behind increased traffic accidents, the main of which was rash driving by the motorists. The other traffic violations mentioned by him were lane swerving, over speeding, tailgating and casual driving behavior of motorists which caused serious traffic accidents in Dubai.

Among these driving offences, tailgating was at the top in the UAE for the year 2015. The number of vehicles that were involved in the first half of 2016 accidents is 771. Among this, private vehicles caused 502 accidents; motorcycles caused 44 accidents, taxis caused 21 accidents, light weight trucks caused 43 accidents and minibus/ heavy trucks caused 54 accidents.

Steps and Measures were taken by Dubai Traffic Police

Dubai traffic police are keen on reducing traffic accidents and has taken serious actions in this context. Recently, Mesta fusion radars were installed on various roads in Dubai to enhance the traffic monitoring system. The ultimate aim of Dubai traffic authorities and police is to control the reckless driving behavior and reduce the number of accidents that occur each year. Recently, multiple road safety seminars and campaigns have been conducted to spread awareness among motorists and other road users. The awards have also been distributed among good motorists who maintained clean traffic record throughout the year. Now, it is the duty of motorists to show care and responsibility while driving.
